How a Day of Fighting Pirates Renews a Child's Strength

Leif wished to go to Hilton Head and fight pirates.
Leif is a shy but playful 5-year-old boy who loves to play make-believe. Through the pages of his favorite book series, “Okee Dokee,” he is able to join his favorite characters as they embark on voyages through time. From the Appalachian Mountains to the Wild West and down the Mississippi River, Leif is not confined to his hospital bed when he is immersed in his stories.

Wish to Have Recording Studio Helps Wesley Feel Free from Cancer

An 8-foot-tall inspirational graffiti mural decorates a corner of Wesley's recording studio.
Instead of a comfortable retreat, 13-year-old Wesley’s bedroom had become the place he associated with being stuck in bed, too sick to get out of the house. When it came time to choose a wish, Wesley knew he wanted to create a new space where he could find peace and escape his cancer diagnosis.

“I wish to have a video recording studio in my basement,” he told Make-A-Wish® Connecticut. “Somewhere I can make videos to share with my friends online.”
